Window on the heavens
The new orangery at Sylvia and Alan’s Oxfordshire home has thrown up some advantages neither had fully anticipated. They were confident the elegant glasshouse would provide them with a fresh appreciation of their stunning mature garden, but they didn’t predict how it would fundamentally change how they saw the rest of the house.
Extra space we can all enjoy
When Jon and Elizabeth Bryson decided to extend their Norfolk cottage they opted for an elegant orangery that would provide a relaxing space the whole family could use. After a 15-year renovation project, they turned their attention to an old lean-to used as a family playroom and decided a new orangery would provide the perfect space in which everyone could relax and enjoy time together.

When he decided on a second orangery to let in the sun and maximise space for all the family, internet entrepreneur Paul Steffans was looking to recreate in Surrey the lifestyle he enjoyed in Australia. And at the heart of his plans was to be a second orangery to house a family relaxation space and a games room.
Modern meets traditional
Tom and Joanna Dudderidge dreamed of a spacious kitchen area in which to share their passion for cooking and entertaining. Three false ceilings in an adjacent room were removed, providing the opportunity to bring the original flagstone and arch into the orangery design. The result, say Tom and Joanna, is simply "a lovely place".

Tony and Lesley Heywood’s new orangery from Timber Windows is the perfect place to enjoy movies, the stars and time with family and friends. The couple – who have four children and three grandchildren – wanted a space in which they could relax in comfort and entertain in style. "The orangery has been brilliant," says Lesley, "because it’s really changed the kitchen and has brightened up that entire side of the house."
